The Rapides Foundation has released its new Healthy Behaviors Program Grant. Through this grant opportunity, the Foundation seeks to prevent and reduce tobacco use, substance and alcohol abuse and obesity through strategic actions within the nine Central Louisiana parishes served by the Foundation.

The goals of this funding opportunity are to: start new, or expand current, prevention efforts; integrate tobacco control, substance and alcohol abuse awareness, physical activity and nutrition strategies; and impact as many Central Louisiana residents as possible. Proposed interventions should be based on best, promising or innovative practices to create a comprehensive community-based program.

Grants of up to $300,000 over a three-year period are available. Applicants must be nonprofit organizations classified as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code, or a government organization. Grant proposals should impact residents within Allen, Avoyelles, Catahoula, Grant, LaSalle, Natchitoches, Rapides, Vernon or Winn parishes.

The first step to apply for the Healthy Behaviors Program Grant is to submit a Letter of Intent by the deadline of Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Approved Letters of Intent will be invited to submit a full proposal to the Foundation at a later date. Applications must be submitted using the Foundation’s online application process. The mission of The Rapides Foundation is to improve the health status of Central Louisiana. Since 2007, the Foundation has invested more than $8.6 million to address two important health behavior outcomes: tobacco use and overweight/obesity among Cenla residents. In 2014, the Foundation implemented its Healthy Behaviors Initiative, a 5-year strategy which adds substance and alcohol abuse awareness to its targeted health behavior outcomes.
